The School of American Ballet

Established in 1934 by legendary choreographer George Balanchine and philanthropist Lincoln Kirstein, The School of American Ballet offers training for approximately 450 boys and girls from age six to eighteen. Most young students are New York residents, but those in the Intermediate and Advanced Divisions comes from over 30 U.S. states and nine foreign countries to study with SAB. The students are granted the unique opportunity to gain performance experience with the School’s affiliation with the New York City Ballet. Approximately 20 advanced students receive contracts with major professional dance companies each year.
