Over 70 years of creating and performing, Manuela Josefa Cabrera Taveras, better known as Fefita La Grande, has established herself as one of the most important figures in Dominican music. As a pioneer of the art of merengue típico, the rustic variation of merengue unique to the Dominican Republic, she is a rare female champion of the accordion, paving the way for countless other women in an otherwise male-dominated profession. Fefita has also earned considerable renown as a celebrated vocalist and phenomenally popular composer and lyricist, whose rendition of the traditional folk song "La Chiflera" is considered emblematic of típico's appeal. Her ability to reinvent her sound has kept Fefita's work freshly appreciated across generations, as proven by recent collaborations with stars like Milly Quezada and Krisspy. Fefita's Lincoln Center premiere on the big stage in Damrosch Park offers audiences an opportunity to witness the Queen of Merengue Típico at her creative height.

Run time: approximately 2 hours 30 minutes
