Presented in collaboration with the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute

Heralded as “The Rolling Stones of Salsa,” the GRAMMY Award-winning Havana-based sensations Los Van Van are Cuba’s greatest Latin jazz dance ensemble. Known throughout the world for their live performances, the group returns to North America in celebration of their 55th anniversary and a concert of spectacular songo. Founded in 1969 by musical director Juan Formell Cortina and currently led by his son Samuel Formell, the band is the forefather of the songo genre, which blends rumba and son Cubano with contemporary jazz and Latin funk. Los Van Van—featuring a full orchestra fronted by four vocalists: Juan Formell's daughter Vanessa Formell and the famed singers Roberto “Roberton“ Hernandez, Armando “Mandy” Cantero, and Abdel “el Lele” Rasalps—will be performing songs from their new album Modo Van Van alongside a selection of legendary tracks from their extensive repertoire. Don't miss this evening-length explosion of tropical music infused with the pure essence of Afro-Cuban rhythms!
