Dance to the double beat of cumbia music at Summer for the City’s silent disco curated by the Brooklyn Cumbia Festival and spun by La Colocha. La Colocha began collecting and selecting records while living on the US-Mexico border, spinning in bars, parties, and cantinas in the center of Ciudad Juarez. Weaving together the sonic tapestry of her upbringing in Queens and her mother’s roots via the Sonidero tradition of Mexico City, La Colocha’s sets move the hearts and bodies of the people who hear her play.

About The Brooklyn Cumbia Festival:
The Brooklyn Cumbia Festival celebrates Cumbia music from its Afro-Indigenous origins in Colombia to its modern forms across Latin America, the U.S. and beyond. The festival takes place in community gardens, public parks, and iconic NYC venues with live bands, DJs, music workshops, dancing, drinks, and artisanal crafts. Produced and founded in 2023 by One Whale’s Tale, a creative arts company led by Ellpetha Tsivicos and Camilo Quiroz-Vazquez.

Run time: approximately 2 hours
